(the 90's and beyond...)
The band submission form is not working, so until it is fixed e-mail me.
The Alchonauts
The Anxietys - Evil twin zine
described them as an early beastie boys sound but I think they sound more like a
skate punk band from califronia in the early 80's (they were heavily influenced
by the faction). They have two songs on the goon records comp I and II, a demo
on the same label and one song on a beer city comp featuring lots of unkown
bands (its called underground invasion vol 1, out of print now).
Demo Tape (Goon Records)
Beer Whores - I think
they only released a demo. They had an early british punk/streetpunk sound and
were really good. I heard the tape years ago but have never gotten a copy of
it... They are going to start playing out again.
Demo Tape
Captain Feedback - I'm
not really sure exactly how to describe these guys, but they were great. Two
songs on the botb 3 comp plus a demo tape on goon. Lots of good influences, and
unfortunately they only played a few shows.
Demo Tape
Cobra Youth - These
guys were from Ypsi, I think. They play a cool 80's hardcore/thrash with
screaming vocals similar to those bands on "welcome to 1984". Also kind of
reminded me of a band I once sang for, the smoke bombs.
Chinese Millionaires -
Rock n roll from Lansing, rip off style. Live they rock pretty hard. To
date they have a few 7" s out (one is on rip off) as well as an lp.
- Drunk punxs, old school style, with vocals that sounds
like the Meatmen. Liked by some, hated by most. They were at one time one of my
favorite bands and kind of helped me into the scene. . They will be missed...
2 Demo Tapes (one entitled "eat your carp out", released on "room 13 records)
2 songs each on botb 1 & 3
Dirtys - Detroit in your face
raw rock n roll. I saw them play once and they were pretty cool. The
singer even plays the harmonica. They have a 7" or two and an lp.
Talks of reuniting in '99 were canceled due to the death of Larry.
RIP.
- At
one time known as Frank my uncles band, they hailed from bay city michigan and
played a 70's style rock n roll mixed with early 80's hardcore. These guys
were one of my favorite bands, maybe an lp of recorded stuff to be released one
day (even if I got to do it myself...)
Karen 7" (under the name "frank my uncle's band")
Sex sell 7" (under name "frank my uncle's band")
Hate your fuckin guts 7" (4 3 songs, dogsblood records)
Split with the epileptix (2 songs each, pelado records)
Embryo - Not really a punk band, these guys are influenced by jimi hendrix and the double oo pub. Short lived, but created a couple of classics in the process (bitch boy, sex kitten).

The Epileptix -
Nihilistic killed by death punk rock. They got lots of comparisons to the germs.
Their live shows were never dull. Check out the interview in Jan. '97 issue of
mrr. To date they 3 7's out (self hate, ep ep on gmm, and a split with the
druggies on pelado) as well a demo released a few years back.
Self Hate 7" (self released, 4 songs)
Ep Ep (97 Gmm records, 3 songs)
Split with the druggies (pelado, 2 songs each)
Greatest Fits LP Tom Perkins Records, '99)
Fags - Great snotty '77 punk
style, with girl vocals. 7" available on Westside records. Mrr liked it, all
songs are short and to the point. What's more to be said? They have a 12" out
with a radio show and 3 live sets. I think it is self produced. I heard they
broke up because they couldn't get along. I think their releases are still
available...
Feast Or Famine - Thrash/Hardcore punk from the eastside if Detroit. Loud, brutal, "Thrash from the Past". These guys had a hell of a following and the shows were pretty wild.
1 or two demos
Negative Reflections 7" (7 songs, '02, battle cry) (some had a bonus 7" & limited cover)
split lp with social outcast (limited record release cover & colored vinyl)
Fudgegun - Detroit post-punk trio on Futowan Records. I guess the drummer went on to play with kelly osbourne?
CD: "If You Could See My Office..."
CD: "Behind Closed Doors"
- The
best way to describe these guys would be an old school california style punk
band . Melodic in a way and realy catchy. Great sing along choruses. These guys
were around for a long time, from about '95 to '03. RIP and watch for new
bands...
Drunk for life demo
Bottom of the barrel 1
Cd ep (6 songs)
Hated And Proud - Ahhh yes...
Hated and Proud. A A couple of x members, but I leave out that boring
shit. Was Detroits one and only (?) oi band going at the time who
played straight up oi. LP and cd out on dim records. For more info,
check out the site.
Hard Liquors - They
contain at least one former member of the fast fucks and they rock just like
them. Punk rock n roll. The singer was on the floor the whole time and banged a
tambourine against her body the whole time. 7" out on transparent records.
- Raw old school with a reminiscent of early hard core bands. 7" available through goon records in
Detroit (500 pressed). Unfortunately, they broke up over a year ago and played
one reunion show on april 24, 1997.
S/T (goon records, 4 songs)
Jim Abusive and the cigarette burns - Raw and wild in your face punk rock n roll. Fronted by Jamie Elvis shows were drunken messes of chaos that involved out of tune instruments, no talent, loud, obnoxious, bar fights, broken guitars, knocked over drum sets, etc. A demo was eventually recorded and mixed over their short lived existence, if anyone is interested e-mai me.
Jim beam and the throw
ups - Described as a punk band with a mix of black metal. They put on
eventful shows that consisted of broken mics, blood, and rats. 2 songs on the
goon comp and an unreleased demo tape.
Johnny Motel and the fast
fucks - I only saw these guys play once, which is a real bummer cause I
guess some of their shows got pretty out of hand. Sets were known to be short
and chaotic. I guess the singer was known to break bottles and the drummer
enjoyed showing off her tits. Music wise they played fast fucked rock n roll.
R.I.P.
Gold Dollar Whore (transparent records, 5 songs)
Krabs - The krabs are
from Grand Rapids, Mi and have a punk/oi type of sound. They're beer drinkers,
as many bands are. I haven't heard anything about them in some time, I think
they might have broken up.
Punk Crock 7" (4 songs, '95)
Working Class (4 songs, room 13, '97?)
The Lagerlads - From Windsor these guys play oi in the vein of combat 84. They've been around for quite some time now and have a bunch of comp tracks as well as the following stuff. They just got back together (again) so watch for some shows and new tunes.
Rose City Boot Boys 7" ('96 Blind Beggar, 4 songs)
Making the last call 7" ('98? gmm, 4 songs recorded in '94/'95)
Bruised Bloody and Tattooed ('98 Blind Beggar, 4 songs)
The good and the bad (Blind beggar, 28 songs)
Left in ruins - Fast,
thrash punk with political lyrics. Has ex-members of the cronks, kenobi, and
annoyance. They had material on the cascade records tribute to black sabbath, a
song on the anti-racist comp, and a 7"? on inane records.
Lindane - One member
went on to form feast or famine... Had one demo tape which could be desribed as
crossed out or the capitalist casualties styles stuff but with the napalm death
vocals. the demo was later booted with wrong song titles by tim & placed on
a tape with aids...
Los Pinkos - These guys play
real 70's style rock n roll with the clean guitar sound. They were very
entertaining live. Short lived...
s/t (Pelado, 4 songs, limited to 300?)
The Mad Henchmen - Fast
snotty punk rock from the next generation. They got good lyrics and were great
live. They had basement recorded tapes and now a demo on goon records.
They just recently broke up and have a different band with the same name,
so watch out.
Mayhem united - Great female
fronted Canadian punk band. I heard lots of comparisons to the vice squad and
oddly enough they cover "stand strong, stand proud".
Demo Tape
Oi Canada Let's Go ("sin city revolution" , Rhythm and boots records, '98)
Metros - Formerly known as "The Metropolitans". They are made up from 2 members of the Mad Henchmen, zach and Chris. Mike from los pinkos is on guitar and his next door neighbor Dave plays drums. Their singer is formerly of The Shakes. They have had comparisons from The Kinks to The Stooges. So somewhere inbetween is where they fall. 7" and Lp out on Rip off records. I guess they broke up and reformed in late '01 and have dismembered once again...
Hot Wired/Go Mean 7" (rip off records, 99)
Lp (rip off records)
Moloko Plus - Shit, I'm not really sure how to describe these guys, maybe a little on the poppy side. They have a few x members of sblc, beer whores, ald, ect. ect. I think the style was a bit more to the pop side than those bands, but it still sounded good. R.I.P. Jake.
Mt. Tai - Formed in 1996, these guys from Detroit play 80's style hardcore punk like Black Flag, Dead Kennedys & Bad Brains. Uber political lyrics and loud as fuck! On Black Punk Militia Records.
Nadsat Nation -
A great band from Ann Arbor with some of the same members as
Pist-N-Broke. They only released a couple of demos and they were a mix of Oi!,
'77 punk, reggae and a bit of rockabilly thrown in.
Old Spice - Fast, tight,
catchy pop punk in the vein of cringer meets Dag Nasty. 7" available on
regression records. Playing out again and plan on releasing a cd soon.
Outskirts - At one time, they were fronted by 3 female singers. They had a late 70's/early 80's dangerhouse records sound to them. They recorded a cd in their short existence, but I don't think you'll ever get a chance to hear it...
P.F.O.D. - Great rose city
hardcore. They do a cover of the beastie boys "fight for your right". They only
put out a couple of demo tapes...
The Posers - More rose city
punk rock with a mix of oi and hardcore. Later stuff was much more a harsher
faster hardcore. Order shit through Vendetta Records, the official posers label/distro. I think I'm missing the final release that come out early '01. These guys are relocated to montreal, and came back and are residing in windsor and playing out again.
Kill the ravers 7" (4 songs, Blind Beggar, '97) limited 1000
What's become 7" (6 songs, Death Threat Records, '98) limited 500
Worse than nothing (4 songs, Oink, '98)
Cd/Lp, 7"s plus new recordings (16 songs, oink 10, '99)
Projectile Vomit - Hailing
from the east side this was the remains of the smoke bombs. Sick and
twisted thrash hardcore like I have never heard before. Short fast songs.
Sick shit. Short lived.
demo tape
Rainbow Striptease - A
formerly all girl band (now they only have one) inspired by early 80's punk and
80's pop rock, with a alot of girl band influence like L7 and 7 Year Bitch. I
think this band might be 86'd too...
Rocket 455 - I guess these
guys are done, but someone please send a description and I can put them in the
bands of the 90's.
The roof rats - A side
project with scruff and ferret (guitar/bass) from west end/murder city wrecks
did when west end broke up. They had a tape out but it sold out. Watch for a
clip one day.
Scurvies - What can I say bout my own
band? I'm not sure what you would classify us as, a mix of oi and punk maybe?
People have told me we sound like early 80's hardcore, and we have even been
compared to negative approach. Two songs on the goon records comp. I have a demo
recorded at scruffs goon studios in '97 with out last live show on the other
side. If anyone is interested (which I doubt) email me.
Smoke Bombs - Hailed from the
east side these guys played a metal/thrash kind of punk sound. Two songs on botb
III and 7 or so songs recorded at goon studios.
Bottom of the barrel 2 (2 songs, goon records)
- Staight up old school Dc hardcore era '81. They have a 7"
and a split 7" on room 13 records. Full length out on radical records, which I
never heard.
No govt, no war, no problem (4 songs, room 13, '96)
Cd (radical records, '99)
StrokerAce - I guess these gals broke
up...
Tin Woodsmen - This was the
reincarnation of A.L.D. in the mid to late '90s. The only difference was
the singer, instead of jimmy doom it was feret. They did a couple of new
songs though that can be found on bottom of the barrel III (?).
Tonsil Boxers - They were a
younger addition to the detroit scene. They played fast, drunk, obnoxious
punk rock... some compare them to "all". Songs about being pissed off and
of course, drinking. Two songs on botb II and a full length demo on goon
records.
Twelve Step Failure - Windsors newest addition to the scene. Street rock n roll. Still in the early stages, broke up already...
U.I.F. (Un inspired
fuckheads) - This band is from Melvindale, and there great. Mid tempo and
kinda poppy, but the lyrics are great. Songs about drinking, mostly (90%...).
They run their own record label (sort of), mush records. 19 song demo "fucked up
is... as fucked up does" $3 ppd. Two songs on botb I & III. They fuckin rock
live, so go see them... New tape out now "never mind sandra bullox, here
u.i.f.".
Fucked up is as fucked up does demo
Bottom of the barrel 1 & 3 (2 songs ea., goon records)
Never mind Sandra bullock... demo
V.D. - I would say the best
way to describe their sound would be that of vice squad. Two songs on the goon
reocords comp I & 3 and a demo tape?
West End - I guess the best
way to describe these guys would be as a 80's british punk band with a little
bit of streetpunk. Did a cool cover of the ejected's "east end kids" (changing
it to west end kids). They were one of a kind and were around for awhile,
playing with a lot of good bands. They released a tape and 7" before breaking up
in late '96. Two of the members went on to start the murder city wrecks.
Demo Tape
The game we play (goon records, 3 songs)
